Parenting When Our Own Stories Show Up

Most of us carry a vision of the parent we hope to be and the relationships we want to build with our children. Then parenting gets hard, our reactions surprise us, and reality falls short of what we imagined.

Together, we have spent years exploring a question that has become increasingly important to us:

How do we care for the child in front of us when our own history is present in the room, too?

When Your Childhood Shows Up in Your Parenting
A 90-minute online workshop with Amy and Dr. Jeffrey Olrick

Parenting has a way of bringing our own histories into the room. A child’s needs can sometimes stir reactions in us that feel stronger than the moment itself.

In this 90-minute workshop, we’ll explore how our own relational patterns can shape the way we respond to our children, and how the Six Needs framework can help us move toward greater awareness, connection, and repair.

We’ll talk about:

  • Why certain parenting moments can feel especially activating
  • How our own histories influence the needs we find easiest and hardest to meet
  • Ways to respond when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or reactive
  • Why repair matters more than getting parenting right every time

Understanding your childhood is one part of healing. Learning how to respond
differently to your child is another.

We’re currently planning the next workshop and would love for you to join us. Add your name below and we’ll let you know as soon as registration opens.

The 6 Needs of Every Child

Drawing on decades of psychological research, neuroscience, and our own experience, the book presents six relational needs for human growth that will transform the way you think about your child—and yourself.
